Fecal occult blood test
Laboratory tests do not require special diets. You must have a special container, which can be purchased at the pharmacy. Stool must be fresh from the morning. The amount needed for the test is the equivalent of a ping-pong ball.
Standard and specialized urine tests
Standard urine test
To perform the urine test, collect a morning urine sample, discarding the first stream and collecting the midstream. Deliver the sample to the laboratory as soon as possible (within 2 hours of collection). The container can be picked up free of charge at our center or purchased at a pharmacy. Do not use containers intended for any other purpose. It is necessary to perform the test outside of your menstrual cycle.
24-hour urine collection
The test requires a special 2-liter container, which can be purchased at a pharmacy. To perform the collection correctly, you must:
- discard the first urine of the morning and note the time;
- Collect all urine collected over the next 24 hours, making sure to time the final collection to the time noted the previous day. The container should be kept closed and kept in a cool place throughout the collection period.
- Deliver the entire collection immediately, or, better yet, a sample transferred into a standard urine container after thoroughly mixing the container. In this case, note the exact volume of the entire collection on the container you deliver (collection containers are graduated; be careful to note the volume correctly, as any inaccuracies could affect the test result). Delivered containers will not be returned.
Creatine clearance
Collect urine for 24 hours, avoiding exposing the container to light (wrap the container in food-grade aluminum foil) and temperatures above 10°C. For laboratory tests, you must take a blood sample on the day you finish urine collection and report your weight and height at admission.
24-hour acidified urine collection
Test for the urinary dosage of 5-Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid, Homovanillic Acid, Catecholamines, Vanilmandelic Acid, Copper, Zinc, Calcium and Phosphorus.
Follow the 24-hour urine collection procedure, making sure to add the laboratory-supplied preservative to the collection container after your first urination. Caution: the preservative is toxic if touched and/or swallowed and/or inhaled. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water and seek emergency medical attention.
Drug test (detection of drugs of abuse)
Laboratory tests for the detection of substances are performed only on urine samples. The test can be performed for clinical or forensic purposes with second-level confirmatory testing. For information on how to perform the test, please contact the laboratory's technical staff.
Urinary Cytology
Collect your second morning urine following this procedure:
- drink at least half a liter of water;
- perform a thorough local cleaning;
- discard the first stream of urine;
- collect the urine directly into the container, taking care not to touch the internal walls;
- Close the container and deliver it to the laboratory as soon as possible.
The investigation of 3 samples on consecutive days is indicated.
Semen Analysis and Spermiogram
Semen analysis, or spermiogram, is the most important laboratory test for identifying a man's reproductive potential. It involves evaluating the chemical and physical characteristics of semen, sperm concentration, motility, and morphology, following the parameters indicated by the WHO 2010. The laboratory test must be performed after sexual abstinence (intercourse or ejaculation) for at least 3 and no more than 5 days. The sample must be collected in the laboratory by ipsation (masturbation) in a sterile container of the type used for urine testing, taking care not to spill the ejaculate. If you prefer to collect the sample at home, the sample must be delivered to the laboratory within 30 minutes and must be protected from temperature changes.
