Bacteriological tests with a simple swab
ContactsGallieno Srl's Clinical Analysis Center collects biological fluid samples using swabs. Bacteriological tests are indicated for the detection of pathogenic microorganisms and yeasts responsible for infections.
The tests do not include the search for viral agents.
For the test to be successful, it's essential that you're not taking antibiotics or have stopped taking them for at least 5-7 days. If you're not taking antibiotics, please report this to the receptionist.

Throat swab and Streptococcus test
The test detects Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococci) and other beta-hemolytic streptococci. If you also wish to screen for yeast (Candida), you must specifically request the test at the reception desk. Avoid using mouthwashes before the test. Fasting is recommended.
Urethral swab and bacterial test
This sample is indicated for the etiological diagnosis of urethritis and the detection of bacteria (excluding gonococcus) and yeasts (fungi), unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. Avoid urinating for three hours before the sample collection; do not have sexual intercourse for three days before. For gonococcus, chlamydia, and mycoplasma testing, you must book a sample collection at the Verona headquarters.
Vaginal swab and bacterial test
This sample is indicated for the etiological diagnosis of vaginitis and for the detection of bacteria (excluding gonococcus) and yeasts (fungi), unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. Trichomonas testing, upon request by your doctor, is performed by appointment at our Verona office. Gonococcus, Chlamydia, and Mycoplasma testing are performed by appointment using an endocervical swab (see procedures below). The bacteriological test must be performed without menstruation (no bleeding). It is a completely painless sample. To prepare for the test, do not douche or douch for 3-4 days prior to the test, do not have sexual intercourse for 3 days prior to the test, and avoid bathing.
Endocervical swab for chlamydia and mycoplasmas
It is performed by obstetric staff upon appointment at the Verona office. The preparation methods are the same as those for a vaginal swab.
Spermiculture and ejaculate collection
For bacteriological tests on semen, collect the ejaculate directly in a sterile container, taking care not to touch the internal walls with your hands or the glans. It is recommended to abstain from sexual intercourse for at least four days before the test.
Sputum and sputum testslungs
Bacteriological tests should be collected only from patients with pneumonia and a productive cough capable of producing sputum. Collect the sample in the morning on an empty stomach; remove any dentures, cleanse your mouth, and gargle with sterile distilled water. Sputum must be coughed up and must not contain saliva; collect the sample in a sterile, wide-mouthed container; deliver the sample within 2 hours and request the relevant bacteriological tests.
I tested for pinworms with a scotch tape test.
Obtain some transparent scotch tape and a slide (provided by the laboratory). In the morning, upon awakening and before using the bathroom, apply 4 cm of transparent scotch tape to the folds of the anal opening (on the adhesive side). The tape should then be firmly applied to the slide; deliver the sample to the laboratory that morning.
Fecal analysis and parasite screening
Collect a walnut-sized amount of stool and place it in a container with a scoop, available at your local pharmacy. The following substances should not be taken before the test: barium sulfate for radiological examinations, mineral oils, non-absorbable antidiarrheals, antimalarials, or tetracyclines. If you have taken these substances, the test should be performed after a week. Since some intestinal parasites are not shed daily, for accurate results, it is advisable to perform the bacteriological test on at least three stool samples passed on consecutive days. The sample can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
I did research on Rotavirus, Adenovirus, Helicobacter Pylori.
The collection procedure for this bacteriological test is the same as that for a body culture. The sample must be submitted as soon as possible.
Dermatophyte Research (onychomycosis)
If onychomycosis or skin fungal infections are suspected, the sample is taken by scraping the lesion site. The patient must not use nail polish or antifungal medications for at least 5 days. The report will be available after 20 days.
Urine culture and bacteriological tests
A bacteriological test is required to determine whether the urine contains bacteria in sufficient quantity to cause an infection. The following instructions must be followed carefully to avoid contaminating the sample with bacteria from other areas of the body or the environment. Use a sterile urine cup. The sample must be collected in a single void. Collect at least half a cupful. Send the urine within one hour of voiding. If more than two hours (and up to a maximum of 24 hours) have passed before delivery, keep the container refrigerated at 4°C.
Collection methods
Female sex
Wash your hands with soap and water and dry your hands; wash your external genitals thoroughly with soap and water, rinse with water, and dry your hands; keep your labia majora apart while urinating; void the first portion of your urine without collecting it; collect the second portion directly in a sterile container, taking care not to touch the inside walls;
Close the container carefully so that urine does not leak out during transport.
Male sex
Wash your hands with soap and water and dry yourself; retract the foreskin, thoroughly wash the urethral opening and surrounding area with soap and water, rinse with water and dry yourself with the foreskin retracted. Pass out the first portion of your urine without collecting it; collect the second portion directly in the sterile container, taking care not to touch the inside walls; carefully close the container so that the urine does not leak during transport.
Sterile adhesive plastic bag (used in younger children when it is not possible to obtain a stream).
Clean the suprapubic and perineal regions, and the external genitalia with soap and water; rinse thoroughly with water and dry; apply the bag, ensuring it adheres to the perineum and suprapubic region. If urination has not occurred after approximately 60 minutes, remove the bag and replace it, repeating the washing procedure. As soon as urination has occurred, remove the bag, close it tightly, and place it in a urine cup. Never pour urine into the cup.
